Break his crust

Posté par diaconos le 22 mai 2019

 Break his crust

Casse sa crouteYOUR WORD is like bread. Break his crust, so we can taste his crumb. Give us to chew it, so we can digest it. Give us to enjoy it, so that we will want to come back. Give us to accompany with her the so diverse moments of our lives, as bread accompanies the so varied dishes on the table.

Give us to share it as bread is shared according to the taste and appetite of each person. Your Word is as ordinary and essential as bread. It is not a brioche, reserved for delicate stomachs, nor is it a Christian choke, imposed on rebellious stomachs.

YOUR WORD is the TRUE BREAD, descended from heaven, for the food of Men. (author unknown)

I am the vine, and you are the branches » (Jn 15, 1-8)

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (Jn 15, 1-8)

The conditions for being an apostle of Christ are to trust Him completely and love one another. We will not miss the contradictions any more than the apostle Paul did, but God will be with us.

The apostle John, in his first letter, sums up all Christianity in this sentence: « This is God’s commandment: « To have faith in his Son Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he has commanded us. And he who is faithful to his commandments dwells in God, and God in him; and we recognize that he dwells in us, since he has given us his Spirit. « (1 Jn 23-24) and in this page of the Gospel, John reminds us that in his teaching, Jesus goes straight to the essential.

Jesus explains that there are three kinds of branches…

First of all, the old dried vine shoots that no longer let the sap through. The best thing to do is to burn them as soon as possible. In each of our lives, we always find moments, attitudes, choices, which have been sterile for our faith and drying for our heart: they take us away from the Lord.

Then we can easily identify another type of branch: the low-yielding shoots: they do not benefit enough from the sap. They grow all in wood, all in leaves, all in twists, and often, from the outside, they look good.  But the bushier the vine, the less fertile it is, and in the end only a few grapes of poor quality will be found.

The third type of vine shoots are those where the sap flows freely and bears fruit without hindrance. This branch, well nourished with sap, is a believer who dwells in Jesus and in whom Jesus can dwell; it is a believer in whom dwells and works the word of Jesus; it is a disciple firmly anchored in his love and in the commandment of love: « Love one another as I have loved you ».

I am the vine, and you are the branches, and he who dwells in me and I in him gives much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (Jn 15, 5) » ,When the sap flows well, the fruit is beautiful. When God’s love is not denied, when his presence is accepted, when charity is no longer delayed, the fruits come in abundance.

Jesus insists very strongly: the link with him is decisive but is never acquired once and for all – neither by a rite nor by an inscription in a religion or by words. Only obedience, the faithful and persevering practice of HIS WORD can assure us that we remain in him « The CHRIST », a true branch of the Vine. What makes the glory of my Father is that you give much fruit: thus, you will be disciples to me. (Jn 15, 8)

 Let us pray

Lord Jesus, I believe that you love me and that you want me to share this love. I offer myself to you today according to your will. I know that in this way you will produce spiritual fruit in my life. I love you, Lord, for all that you have given me and because you have entrusted me with your word to share with my brothers and sisters. There’s nothing I can do alone, but if I unite with you, you’ll do wonders. Make me generous. Do with me what you desire, Lord.

(auteur inconnu)
