God would not do justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night ?

God would not do justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night ? dans Religion

From the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke

At that time, Jesus told his disciples a parable about the need for them to always pray without getting discouraged : « There was a judge in a city who did not fear God and did not respect men. In the same city, there was a widow who came to ask her : « Do me justice against my opponent. »

For a long time he refused; then he said to himself : « Even if I don’t fear God and respect anyone, as this widow begins to bore me, I will do her justice so that she won’t come to knock me out all the time. » The Lord added: « Listen carefully to what this judge, who has no justice,  says !

And God would not do justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night ? Does it keep them waiting? I tell you: very quickly, he will do them justice. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth ? »  (Lk 18,1-8)

Homily  The unjust Judge

To encourage his disciples to pray with perseverance, Jesus offered them the example of a poor widow who, through insistence, obtained justice from a judge who, fearing neither God nor man, upheld her out of selfishness and to be delivered from her intrusiveness.

If the persistent complaint of the poor widow had the consequence of exasperating this unscrupulous judge and deciding to finally do justice, how much more will a persistent prayer have an effect on God who loves us infinitely and wants to satisfy us !

Tell me why are you praying ? Do you pray to change God or that your prayer will transform you and help you to enter with faith into his plan for yourself and others, which is not always in line with what you want.

The loss of the meaning of prayer is a very clear sign of a decrease in faith that justifies Jesus’ concern. The position of Christians in the world makes them feel at all times this pressing need for prayer; without it each of them would be like this poor widow, oppressed and destitute of all protection.

God’s promise is certain, infallible. Will you have the courage to persevere to the end by keeping the true faith that alone can keep you in communion with Jesus Christ ?

They pray with joy and confidence and above all they persevere…

Pray with faith, that is, pray to enter into God’s plans for you; pray to let yourself be transformed by Him and thus enter into God’s patience with others and with yourself.
