From the Gospel according to Mark

12 On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being slain, Jesus’ disciples said to him, « Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover? « 13 He sent two of his disciples, saying to them, « Go into the city; a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him, 14 and where he goes in, tell the owner, « The Master has sent you to say, ‘Where is the room where I can eat the Passover with my disciples?’ »15 He will point out to you a large room upstairs that has been set up and is ready for a meal. Make the preparations for us there. « 16 The disciples left and went into the city, and they found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover.

22 While they were eating, Jesus took bread and said the blessing, broke it and gave it to them, saying, « Take, this is my body. « 23 Then he took a cup and gave thanks, and they all drank from it. 24 Then he said to them, « This is my blood of the covenant, shed for many. 25 « Amen, I tell you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God. « 26 When they had sung the psalms, they set out for the Mount of Olives. »  (Mk 14:12-16.22-26)

The Passover meal

When the Passover came, the chief priests and scribes sought a way to seize him and kill him, but they did not want it to be during the feast for fear of sedition.  When Jesus was at table with Simon the leper in Bethany, a woman came with an alabaster jar full of expensive perfume, and she broke the jar and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head. Some of them blamed this useless waste: this perfume, they said, could have been sold for three hundred denarii to benefit the poor. Jesus reproached them for hurting the woman.

He said that she was doing a good deed for him. They were always able to do good for the poor, while he was not always able to do good for them. Sensing the death of Jesus whom she loved, she did what she could; powerless to save him, she paid him the last duty by sacrificing to him what she had most precious. Wherever the Gospel is preached, what she did is told.

Judas, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to deliver Jesus to them. They received him gladly and promised him money. Judas looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
